Domaine Alain Jeanniard, Ladoix, Champ Pussuet 2022 - 75cl
Ladoix sits at the northern tip of the Côte de Beaune, quietly overlooked while collectors chase Aloxe-Corton next door. That is exactly why it is worth knowing. Alain Jeanniard works out of Morey-Saint-Denis, tending a small estate and buying a little fruit as a micro-négociant, and his Champ Pussuet is village Burgundy made with a grower's care rather than a factory's shortcuts.
This is 100% Pinot Noir from a warm, generous 2022 vintage, and it shows. The colour is deep ruby. Aromas build slowly in the glass — crunchy red cherry and wild strawberry first, then a floral note, undergrowth and a chalky, savoury edge underneath. The palate is round and balanced, with supple tannins that brush the mouth rather than grip it, and a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything moving toward a gently persistent finish. Nothing here shouts. It rewards a bit of patience in the glass.
Drink it now with a decade of good drinking ahead if you would rather cellar a few bottles.
How to Serve
Serve at 14–16°C in a broad-bowled Burgundy glass. Give it fifteen minutes after pouring — young village Pinot opens beautifully with a little air. A brief decant does no harm but is not essential.
Where to Drink It
Noble Rot in Lamb's Conduit Street, where a Burgundy like this belongs on the list. Or Planque in Haggerston, if you want somewhere that treats grower Burgundy as the main event.
Food Pairings
Roast chicken with tarragon is the obvious, happy match. I would also pour it with a mushroom risotto, or a plate of Comté when the bottle is most of the way down.
