Domaine Alain Jeanniard, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Poisets 2022 - 75cl
Nuits-Saint-Georges makes some of the most savoury, structured reds in the Côte de Nuits, and Les Poisets is a lieu-dit on the Prémeaux side of the village. Domaine Alain Jeanniard, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, farms with a careful, low-intervention hand, and this is Pinot Noir that carries the earthy, masculine stamp Nuits is known for.
The 2022 vintage gave ripe, well-balanced Burgundy, and it shows in the glass. The nose is black cherry and blackcurrant, a touch of liquorice, then the forest-floor, mushroom and gentle spice that come with proper Nuits. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied, with firm but ripe tannins and a mineral, slightly stony core. There's real grip and a long, savoury finish — this is Pinot with structure rather than mere prettiness.
Give it air now and it drinks well with robust food, but it has the frame to reward five to eight years in the cellar, when the tannins settle and the wine turns more perfumed. A serious red for a serious table.
How to Serve
Serve at 16–17°C in a large Burgundy glass. Decant a young bottle for 45 minutes to an hour to open the fruit and soften the grip.
Where to Drink It
Wiltons for game and old-school service. Scott's for something polished. Boisdale if you want it with red meat.
Food Pairings
Roast duck or a peppered venison steak. A plate of hard, mature cheese also does it justice.
