Domaine Alain Jeanniard, Bourgogne, Quintessence Pinot Noir 2022 - 75cl
Burgundy stands as the apex of Pinot Noir winemaking - a place where tiny vineyard parcels and centuries of accumulated wisdom produce wines of unparalleled finesse and complexity. Here, the philosophy is singular and sacred: let the vineyard speak, and the wine will follow. The greatest Burgundies achieve a paradox both baffling and beautiful: they are simultaneously powerful and ethereal, structured yet silken, age-worthy yet immediately delicious.
This 2022 expression exemplifies what Burgundy does best. On the nose, red cherry and wild strawberry emerge first, joined by hints of rose petal, forest floor, and subtle oak. The palate is remarkably fine-boned - gossamer tannins, bright acidity, and red fruit combine in a wine of remarkable elegance and poise. The finish is long and lingering, inviting contemplation and conversation.
What distinguishes great Burgundy is its ability to age with remarkable grace. Drink this wine now, and you'll appreciate its immediate charm and fruit-forward character. Cellar it for 8 - 12 years, and watch as it develops further layers of complexity, becoming a meditation on terroir itself. Either path reveals one of the world's greatest wine expressions.
How to Serve
Serve at 15 - 16°C. Decanting is optional - sample the wine first to assess whether aeration would benefit it. Allow 8 - 10 minutes of glass time for the wine to open fully.
Food Pairings
Roasted chicken, poached salmon, earthy mushroom dishes, soft cheeses, and lighter game birds form the classical pairing trinity. Burgundy's ethereal nature also makes it magnificent as a standalone meditation on vineyard, vintage, and the art of winemaking itself.
