No 4 40cl Case of 6
The flute is on its way out, and good riddance. A narrow flute traps a Champagne's aroma and leaves you sniffing glass. The Lehmann No 4 fixes that — a tall, elegant glass with enough bowl to actually smell what's in it, while keeping the mousse fine and lively. Here it comes as a case of six.
Lehmann Glass was founded in Reims — the heart of Champagne, fittingly — in 2012, by glass designer Gérard Lehmann and Gérard Basset, a sommelier who held the World's Best Sommelier, Master Sommelier and Master of Wine titles at once. Made from lead-free crystal using the ultralight process, the No 4 stands 245mm tall with an 84mm bowl: slim enough to protect the bubbles, wide enough to release the toast, brioche and citrus that a good grower Champagne hides from a flute.
This is how sparkling wine should be served if you care what it tastes like rather than just how the bubbles look. It suits everything from a weeknight crémant to a serious vintage cuvée, and it handles a still white beautifully too. The tall stem keeps your hand off the bowl and the wine cold.
How to Use
Pour gently down the side of the bowl to preserve the mousse, filling to around the widest point. Always hold it by the stem — warm hands kill the chill and flatten the fizz. Chill the glass first if you like. Dishwasher safe, though a hand wash and polish keeps the crystal sparkling.
