Mijenta Reposado Tequila 70cl
Mijenta is the tequila that decided to take sustainability as seriously as flavour, and it earned the B Corp certification to prove it — right down to packaging made partly from agave-fibre waste. But the reason to buy it is what's in the glass, overseen by Ana María Romero Mena, one of Mexico's most respected maestras tequileras.
This reposado is highland tequila through and through, made from 100% blue Weber agave grown around Arandas up in Los Altos. It rests around six months across an unusual trio of casks — American white oak, French oak and French acacia — and that acacia is the quiet secret, lending a floral, almost honeyed lift you don't get from oak alone.
The nose is lovely and layered: vanilla with a twist of bergamot, honey, preserved fruit and orange blossom. The palate delivers cooked agave, more honey and vanilla, with cacao nibs arriving on the mid-palate for a gentle bitter-chocolate edge. The finish is long and generous. It's additive-free, 40%, and everything about it feels considered rather than flashy.
For the money this is a genuinely classy reposado — the kind you're pleased to pour for someone whose opinion you care about.
How to Serve
Neat in a copita or tulip at room temperature to catch the orange blossom and vanilla. It's too characterful to drown — skip the ice, or use one large cube at most. Lovely in a lightly sweetened agave cocktail too.
Where to Drink It
The Connaught Bar, for agave given real attention. Tayēr + Elementary, for a considered pour. Scarfes Bar, for a relaxed evening with something a bit special.
Food Pairings
Try it with grilled chicken in a mole and let the cacao notes meet. Or sip it after dinner with a square of good dark chocolate and a few orange segments.
