Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack
Gentleman Jack is the smoother, more refined side of Jack Daniel's. What sets it apart is a second charcoal mellowing — the Tennessee whiskey is filtered through sugar-maple charcoal both before and after it ages, where standard Jack gets the treatment just once. That extra polish is the whole point.
It's made at Lynchburg, Tennessee from the same corn-led mash and matured in charred new oak. The double mellowing strips away some of the rougher edges, leaving something noticeably softer in the glass.
The nose is gentle and sweet — vanilla, caramel, ripe banana and a little toasted oak. The palate is smooth and light-bodied, with more vanilla, a hint of baking spice and that faintly fruity Jack character. At 40% it slips down easily, the finish clean and short-to-medium.
An approachable sipper, and a good way to taste what the charcoal mellowing actually does.
How to Serve
Neat or over a couple of ice cubes. It also makes a smooth, easy Old Fashioned if you'd rather mix.
Where to Drink It
The American Bar at The Savoy. Black Rock in Shoreditch. Boisdale of Belgravia for a relaxed night out.
Food Pairings
Try it with pulled pork or a plate of sticky wings. It's also surprisingly good with a caramel dessert.
