Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, Petite Chapelle 2022 - 75cl

Petite Chapelle sits on the lower slopes of Gevrey-Chambertin, a Premier Cru climat that gives Pinot Noir with more perfume than muscle. Domaine Rossignol-Trapet farms it biodynamically, a practice the family committed to fully by the mid-2000s, and works gently in the cellar: a good proportion of whole clusters in the ferment, no punching down, all in the name of keeping the wine light on its feet. This is Cote de Nuits Pinot made for finesse rather than force.

The 2022 is a warm, ripe vintage handled with restraint. The nose is all perfumed red cherry and wild strawberry, pure and forward, with clove and white pepper dusted over the top. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, suave and round, carried by a sappy dry extract that coats the mouth and a mineral thread that keeps the finish long and precise. There is a youthful austerity to it now that a few years will resolve. Drink from 2027 onward, and it should hold comfortably into the 2030s.

How to Serve

Serve at 15-16C in a Burgundy glass. A short 20-minute decant helps a young bottle; longer risks blowing off the perfume.
