amie sauvignon 75cl

amie sauvignon 75cl
Not every bottle needs a story about a hillside. Some just need to be cold, dry and genuinely good, and this is one of those. amie is built for the middle of the week — the bottle you open without deciding it is an occasion.
It pours a bright lemon-green. The nose is clean and aromatic in the way good Sauvignon Blanc should be, all cut grass and citrus rather than anything overworked. On the palate the fruit splits between green — gooseberry, lime — and something riper and more tropical behind it, and then the acidity arrives and pulls everything tight. That mouth-watering finish is the whole appeal: it makes you want the next sip, which is more than a lot of £15 whites manage.
There is no oak here and no attempt at complexity it hasn't earned. What you get is a well-made, properly dry, thoroughly refreshing white at a price that means you can keep a couple in the fridge without thinking about it. Buy it by the case and stop agonising over the weeknight white.
How to Serve
Serve it cold, 7-9°C. Straight from the fridge is fine. A standard white wine glass, and drink it within a year or two of buying — this is a wine made to be enjoyed young and fresh.
Where to Drink It
Dandy on Maltby Street for a glass at the bar. Planque in Haggerston if you want something informal. Honestly, though, this one belongs at your own kitchen table.
Food Pairings
Goat's cheese is the classic and it works for a reason — the acidity in the wine and the tang in the cheese meet in the middle. Beyond that, grilled prawns, a herb-heavy salad, or a plate of asparagus when it is in season.
