Wyss, Rosé Pinot Noir, Azmoos AOC 2022 - 75cl
Wyss Rosé Pinot Noir from Azmoos AOC represents a distinctly Alpine interpretation of what rosé can be when crafted with precision and respect for terroir. From the Swiss mountain vineyards of Azmoos, this wine emerges with more structure and complexity than many warmer-climate rosés - a reflection of cooler nights and careful winemaking that prioritises balance over simple fruit-forward appeal.
The Azmoos appellation sits in the canton of St. Gallen, where Alpine conditions create a unique microclimate. Cool nights preserve acidity, whilst sunny days encourage ripeness. Pinot Noir thrives here, and when vinified as a rosé - through brief skin contact rather than full maceration - it produces wines of surprising elegance and refinement. Wyss, a family producer with deep roots in these vineyards, approaches winemaking with Swiss precision combined with respect for natural processes.
In the glass, the wine shows a delicate salmon-pink hue with orange undertones. The nose is lifted and aromatic, with notes of red berries, white peach, and subtle floral characteristics. There is also a mineral undertone - a whisper of slate and stone that speaks of Alpine terroir. On the palate, the wine is dry and well-structured, with good acidity that provides framework and lift. Red fruit flavours - strawberry, raspberry - are balanced by a mineral quality and subtle tannins that give the wine more grip than typical rosés. The texture is refined, the finish persistent and invigorating.
How to Serve
Serve chilled (around 10-12°C) in a white wine glass. The wine's complexity deserves proper glassware and serving temperature.
Food Pairings
Brilliant with Alpine cuisine - smoked fish, cured meats, mountain cheeses, and dishes featuring mushrooms or herbs. Also exceptional with roasted chicken, vegetable-based preparations, and lighter fish courses.
