Bodegas Frontonio, El Jardín de las Iguales Tinto 2020 - 150cl

El Jardin de las Iguales is the flagship red from Bodegas Frontonio, the Valdejalon estate run by Fernando Mora MW west of Zaragoza. It comes from a single plot of old bush-vine Garnacha grown on sand over slate at altitude — the kind of high, poor site that gives freshness instead of sheer weight.

The 2020 is fragrant and detailed: wild raspberry and redcurrant, crushed thyme and rosemary, a floral top note, and a mineral, faintly saline finish. Whole-bunch fermentation and time in old wood keep the tannins fine and the fruit lifted — proof that Aragon Garnacha can be as elegant as anything from further north. This is the magnum, which slows the ageing and suits a table of people.

How to Serve

Serve at 15–16°C in a generous glass. Decant briefly to open a young magnum; it keeps unfolding across the meal.

Where to Drink It

Brat for the fire. Noble Rot for the wine crowd. Planque in Haggerston to drink it among bottles that share its outlook.

Food Pairings

Reach for lamb — grilled cutlets, or a slow shoulder with garlic and herbs. Grilled aubergine or a plate of Spanish charcuterie work beautifully too.
