La Poja 2016 is Allegrini’s flagship expression: 100% Corvina Veronese grown on a rare limestone plateau in the hills above Lake Garda. The vineyard is just 3 hectares, producing wines of remarkable intensity and character. The grapes are hand-harvested late, then aged for 20 months in new French oak barriques, 8 months in large Slavonian casks, and a further 10 months in bottle before release. The result is a deep ruby wine with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and cassis, layered with tobacco, liquorice, balsamic notes and fine spice. The palate is powerful yet refined: ripe fruit framed by polished tannins, earthy undertones, and a savoury tension that promises long life. Critics rate 2016 as one of the great La Poja vintages, with Falstaff awarding 94/100 and noting its structure and ageing potential.
