Villagio is a nod to Burgundy, a region that Podere Forte founder Pasquale Forter adores and respects, and clearly looks towards for inspiration as he re-imagines the potential of Sangiovese in Tuscany. A wine of great purity, saturated with red and blue fruits. The perfume is not obviously Sangiovese, the wine making is caring and gentle to bring out a juicy, silky nature of the tannins that we rarely see. 2021 is a famously challenging vintage but the drinkability here is phenomenal, this is a perfect mid-week wine or something by-the-glass in restaurants. Fine wine drinkers will recognise the quality, if not the style, but find Villagio a wine of absolute pleasure and harmony to be enjoyed without delay.
