Nèprica Negroamaro, Tormaresca 2024 75cl
Neprica is Tormaresca's approachable Puglian red, and this bottling puts Negroamaro front and centre. It is an easy, warming southern Italian wine that overdelivers for the money, the kind of bottle that makes weeknight dinners better.
Tormaresca is the Antinori family's estate in Puglia, and the Neprica name nods to the trio of grapes that traditionally feature, though Negroamaro leads here. Grown in the warm heel of Italy, the fruit ripens fully, giving a soft, generous red with a savoury Puglian character. Winemaking is straightforward and fruit-focused, with only a light touch of oak.
Expect a deep ruby colour and a nose of ripe blackberry, black cherry, plum and a warm hint of baking spice and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with soft, ripe tannins, mellow acidity and a slightly savoury, almost smoky edge that is typical of Negroamaro. The finish is warm and moreish rather than long.
At around £15 it is dependable, characterful value and a great house red. Drink over the next two to three years, no cellaring required.
