Flor de Caña 15 Year Old

Flor de Cana ages slowly. Their distillery sits at the foot of the San Cristobal volcano in Nicaragua, and this 15 Year Old spends every one of those years in ex-bourbon oak with no added sugar — a point of pride in a category that so often leans sweet.

The result is a dry, composed rum. Deep mahogany in the glass, with a nose of vanilla, toasted oak and dried fruit — fig, date, candied orange — over soft molasses. The palate is velvet-smooth: more vanilla and oak spice, cocoa, a little tobacco, and that dried-fruit sweetness held in check by the dryness. The finish is long and warm without any heat. A sipping rum first and foremost.

How to Serve

Neat in a spirits glass at room temperature is how it shows best. If you must mix it, keep things simple — an Old Fashioned built on rum instead of bourbon is a fine use.
