Domaine Alain Jeanniard, Chambolle-Musigny 2022 - 75cl

Chambolle-Musigny is the perfumed heart of the Côte de Nuits, the village whose wines are prized for lace rather than muscle. Alain Jeanniard works a small holding here from his cellars in Morey-Saint-Denis, and this village bottling carries the appellation's signature: aromatic lift, silk in place of grip, a sense of the wine hovering rather than sitting. The warm 2022 season lent the fruit a little more depth than usual without blunting that famous delicacy.

Red cherry, wild strawberry and a floral top note of violet rise first, followed by a thread of sweet spice and gentle woodland earth. The palate is where Chambolle earns its reputation — the tannins are fine and powdery, coating rather than clamping, and the fruit is bright and red-toned throughout. A line of cool minerality runs underneath, and the acidity keeps everything poised into a finish that fades slowly and quietly. It is already lovely, but the balance here is built for the cellar; give it five to ten years and the perfume will only deepen.

Serve at 15°C in a wide-bowled Burgundy glass to gather the aromatics. No decant needed — let it open in the glass over the first twenty minutes.
