Brendan Stater-West, Saumur, Breze Blanc 2020 - 75cl
From a cherished parcel in Brézé planted in the 1960s, this Chenin Blanc showcases its heritage with flair. This vintage presents itself with flint and subtle black pepper on the nose, layered over intense chalky notes. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in used barrels for a year, it gains depth without sacrificing freshness, while an additional six months in steel sharpens its profile. On the palate, it offers a rich tapestry of grapefruit and clove, buoyed by a vibrant mineral streak and a hint of creamy texture. It's a structured and lively white, avoiding malolactic fermentation to keep its edgy acidity intact. Concluding with a long finish highlighted by clove, this wine stands out for its precision and elegance, promising further evolution with a bit more time in the bottle.
