Vermentino grown a stone's throw from the Tuscan coast has a saltiness you can almost taste in the sea breeze, and Guado al Tasso's 2025 captures exactly that. This is coastal white wine doing what it does best.
Guado al Tasso is Antinori's Bolgheri estate, better known for its powerful Cabernet-based reds, but its Vermentino is a summer staple worth knowing. Grown in the DOC Bolgheri vineyards near the Tyrrhenian Sea, the wine is fermented in stainless steel to keep every ounce of freshness and fruit purity, with no oak to get in the way.
Pour it and you get a nose of white peach, green apple and a distinct note of citrus zest, with the herbal, almost saline lift that marks good coastal Vermentino. The palate is crisp and dry, with a mouth-watering acidity and that gentle salty tang running to a clean, refreshing finish. It is uncomplicated in the best sense, all about drinkability and place.
Drink this young and cold over the next year or two, while its fruit is at its freshest. At around £23 it is honestly priced for a coastal Tuscan white from a serious estate, the sort of bottle you buy by the case for warm evenings.
