Tayēr Vetiver Negroni
Tayēr's Vetiver Negroni emerges as a sophisticated reimagining of the classic Italian aperitif, introducing the warm, earthy, slightly herbaceous character of vetiver to a drink format that has endured for over a century. This is dry, bitter, and beautifully balanced - a negroni that demands attention and rewards it with complexity and character. The vetiver provides an earthiness that complements rather than dominates, adding depth to a drink that already possesses remarkable architecture.
Crafted by Tayēr + Elementary, this negroni begins with excellent gin selected for its botanical character and complexity. Campari provides the essential bitter component, the bright red colour, and herbal aromatics that define the drink. Sweet vermouth contributes warmth, slight spice, and the necessary sweetness to balance the gin and Campari. The vetiver infusion, created through careful maceration, adds unexpected earthiness: warm, herbaceous, slightly woody, reminiscent of tropical grasses and soil after rain. In proper balance, it frames and deepens rather than overwhelms.
In the glass, the negroni presents that iconic bright coral-red hue that has made the drink immediately recognisable for generations. The nose reveals Campari's herbal and citrus aromatics, the spice and warmth of sweet vermouth, and gin's botanical character, all supported by vetiver's warm, earthy undertones. On the palate, the drink presents a beautiful balance between dry gin, bitter Campari, and the sweetness and spice of vermouth. The vetiver emerges gradually, adding earthy depth and a subtle woody character that frames the whole composition. The bitterness is clean and invigorating, the sweetness gentle and integrated. The finish is long and warming, with vetiver notes that linger pleasantly.
