Glenrothes 1980 41 Year Old 'Limited'
Distilled in 1980 and matured for over four decades in a single sherry butt, this Glenrothes is a whisky of remarkable depth and complexity. Only 310 bottles exist, each presented in a hand-finished crystal decanter. The Glenrothes distillery, in the heart of Speyside, is renowned for fruit-forward single malts shaped by long ageing in sherry casks. This rare release shows that style at its most expressive, rich, elegant, and deeply layered. The nose opens with marzipan, caramel, and vanilla, moving into dried apricot, orange peel, leather, lapsang souchong, and a wisp of smoke. On the palate, charred pineapple, fruit jellies, and manuka honey lead to flashes of redcurrant, yellow plum, and creamy custard, with a subtle herbal lift. The finish is long and confident, balancing leather, cedar, liquorice, and the rancio depth that only extended maturation can bring. Bottled at natural cask strength, with no added colour and no chill filtration, the 1980 Glenrothes is both a collector’s treasure and a whisky to be savoured — a true testament to Speyside’s heritage.
