No.3 Gin, Four Ways
Four ways to drink No.3 London Dry Gin, from crisp martinis and proper negronis to long G&Ts built for the first warm evening of the year.
- Words By Alice Endersby

At the House, there are very few bottles the office can unanimously agree on.
No.3 London Dry Gin is one of them.
It’s the bottle that quietly appears at tastings, events, team dinners, and on more than one exceptionally well-stocked drinks trolley around the office. Clean, crisp, beautifully balanced, and reliably excellent every single time.
There’s a reason for that.
No.3 is proper London Dry Gin in the best possible sense: bright juniper, clean citrus, gentle spice, and enough structure to hold its own whether you’re stirring it into a martini or building something long and cold for the first warm evening of the year.
1. The Martini
There are drinks that tolerate shortcuts.
The martini is not one of them.
- 50ml No.3 Gin
- 10ml dry vermouth
- Lemon twist
The beauty of No.3 here is its clarity. Crisp juniper right through the middle, lifted citrus around the edges, and just enough spice to keep everything feeling sharp and composed.
The sort of drink that makes even replying to emails feel sophisticated.
2. The Negroni
Some drinks arrive quietly.
The negroni kicks the door open.
- 25ml No.3 Gin
- 25ml sweet vermouth
- 25ml Campari
- Orange peel
Stir over ice and strain over a large cube. Finish with orange peel.
No.3 gives the negroni backbone. The juniper cuts cleanly through the bitterness, while the citrus keeps everything bright rather than heavy.
Perfect before dinner. Equally perfect when dinner has somehow been pushed back three hours because nobody has stopped talking.
3. The Gin Paloma
A little less expected. Which is part of the charm.
- 50ml No.3 Gin
- 75ml pink grapefruit soda
- 15ml fresh lime juice
- Pinch of sea salt
Build over ice in a tall glass and stir gently.
Fresh, citrus-led and dangerously drinkable. The grapefruit pulls forward all the brighter notes in the gin, while the salt keeps everything crisp and savoury.
4. The Proper G&T
And of course, last but certainly not least, the classic.
- 50ml No.3 Gin
- 150ml premium tonic
- Cucumber slice
- Ice
Optional additions
- A squeeze of lime
- Fresh mint
- Fresh cracked black pepper
Build over plenty of ice and stir once.
The cucumber keeps things cool and clean, letting No.3’s bright juniper and citrus notes stay front and centre. Add mint for something fresher, or black pepper for a little savoury lift.
Simple, refreshing, and exactly the sort of drink that reminds you why the gin & tonic became a classic in the first place.
