Casa Dragones: The Art of Sipping Tequila
A modern house that set out to prove tequila could belong beside the finest sipping spirits in the world. Small-batch, hand-finished and quietly luxurious, this is Casa Dragones.
- Words By House of Decant

Casa Dragones set out to change what tequila could be: not a spirit to shoot with salt and lime, but one to sip slowly from a fine glass, alongside the great whiskies and Cognacs of the world. Small-batch and quietly luxurious, it has largely succeeded. This is a full guide to Casa Dragones and the range we stock at House of Decant.
Founded in 2009 and led by Bertha Gonzalez Nava, one of the most respected figures in the industry, Casa Dragones is a modern house with old-world standards. It is made in the town of Tequila, in the highlands of Jalisco, from carefully selected blue agave, and every bottle is produced in small batches and finished by hand, right down to the individually numbered, hand-signed labels.
A Sipping Spirit
The house signature is its Joven, an unusual and rather brilliant idea: a blend of pure silver tequila with a small proportion of extra-aged tequila, married and rested to create something smooth and complex without heavy oak. It is bright and clean yet layered, and it makes the case, in a single sip, that fine tequila deserves the same reverence as a great single malt. This is agave as a luxury spirit, not a party trick.
Casa Dragones asks a simple question: why shoot a spirit this good? Poured neat, from a fine glass, tequila answers it.
The Range We Stock
We carry the flagship Joven, the smooth, sippable blend that made the house's name, and the Reposado Mizunara, an exceptional expression rested in rare Japanese Mizunara oak, the same prized wood used for the finest Japanese whisky. It is a genuine meeting of two craft traditions, Mexican agave and Japanese cooperage, and the result is spiced, silky and utterly distinctive.
What It Tastes Like
The Joven is all bright cooked agave, white pepper, citrus and a whisper of vanilla, clean and elegant with a long, warming finish. The Mizunara Reposado adds the unmistakable fingerprint of that Japanese oak: sandalwood, incense, gentle spice and a silky texture. Neither tastes remotely like the harsh tequila of student memory; these are refined, contemplative spirits.
How to Drink It
Drink Casa Dragones the way its makers intended: neat, at room temperature, from a proper glass, sipped slowly. There is no need for salt, lime or a mixer; these are spirits to appreciate on their own terms, ideally after dinner. If you must have a cocktail, keep it simple and let the tequila lead.

Casa Dragones is part of a quiet revolution that has dragged tequila out of the shot glass and onto the after-dinner tray. Pour it neat and give it your attention, and it repays you like any great spirit: with complexity, warmth and a reason to slow down.
