A good Bourgogne Rouge is the truest test of a Burgundy grower — no grand vineyard to hide behind, just Pinot Noir, honest farming and a fair price. Sébastien Magnien's, made from vines around Meursault and the wider Côte de Beaune, is exactly the kind of regional Burgundy that punches above its station.

The 2022 is bright and welcoming. Fresh red cherry and wild strawberry lead, with a little cranberry tartness and a whisper of the earthy, undergrowth character that makes even entry-level Burgundy so recognisable. It's light to medium-bodied, the tannins soft, the acidity keeping it juicy and moreish. There's no heavy oak here — just clean, transparent Pinot fruit that slips down far too easily.

This is your everyday red Burgundy, the bottle for a Tuesday as much as a dinner party. Serve it slightly cool and it's endlessly drinkable. Don't overthink it — open it and enjoy.

How to Serve

Serve lightly chilled at 14–15°C in a Burgundy glass. No decant needed; it's ready to pour straight away.

Where to Drink It

The Wolseley for an easy lunch. Dandy for something relaxed and wine-forward. Noble Rot for a by-the-glass Burgundy fix.

Food Pairings

Roast chicken or a plate of charcuterie. It's also a friendly match for a mushroom tart.
