Domaine de la Pousterle Luberon Blanc 2023
The Luberon sits in the southern Rhône, up in the hills of Provence where the nights turn cool even in high summer — which is exactly why its whites keep their freshness where flatter, hotter vineyards can't. Domaine de la Pousterle farms around the village of Ansouis, and this blanc is their easygoing, sun-and-stone expression of the place.
It's a southern white blend in the classic mould — Grenache Blanc for body, Vermentino (Rolle) for its citrus lift, Roussanne for texture and a touch of honey. Together they give you a wine that's rounder and more generous than a northern white, but still bright enough to keep you coming back.
Expect citrus blossom and ripe stone fruit on the nose — white peach, a little spiced apple — with a floral edge and a whisper of honey. The palate is crisp and medium-bodied, crunchy green apple and pear over a core of zesty acidity, with a faintly nutty, blanched-almond note and a clean, mineral finish. It's the kind of wine you open without ceremony and drink without thinking too hard. At £16, that's exactly what you want.
How to Serve
Serve chilled at 9–11°C in a standard white wine glass. Drink it young, while the fruit is at its brightest — no decanting needed.
Where to Drink It
The Wolseley, for a relaxed lunch and an easy glass. Bouchon Racine in Farringdon, for its French bistro cooking. Planque in Haggerston, for a plate of something Provençal and sunny.
Food Pairings
Think Provençal: a tapenade on toast, grilled vegetables brushed with olive oil, or a piece of white fish with herbs. It's also a fine partner for a goat's cheese salad on a warm day.
