The Insider Series | Tamdhu Distillery

In the heart of Speyside lies Tamdhu Distillery, a whisky name whispered with reverence yet rarely seen. Closed to the public, it remains a hidden gem, its secrets preserved in stone warehouses that have stood since 1897.

We were lucky enough to step inside this normally hidden distillery, to walk the warehouses, talk to Distillery Manager Sandy, and witness a place that most will never have the chance to see.

Sandy McIntyre describes himself simply: “I’m a custodian just now.” Walking through the warehouses, he feels the weight of history. Generations before him have rolled casks through the same doors, and generations to come will do the same. “You walk around,” he says, “and it evokes memories.”

The work is both varied and constant: sampling spirit, authorising bottlings, overseeing process and people, but above all ensuring one thing, that every drop is at its absolute peak of perfection. That, Sandy insists, is what makes him most proud: seeing Tamdhu on shelves around the world and knowing people are enjoying it.

For Sandy, Tamdhu is not just about whisky, but about responsibility, continuity, and craft. And as Tamdhu steps into the spotlight with House of Decant’s Distillery Series, this once “secret” gem is revealed as one of the great keepers of Scotch whisky’s spirit.
