The Insider Series | Ardbeg Distillery
We spent the day with Jackie Thomson at Ardbeg Distillery on Islay, where the salt air, smoky casks and bubbling tun room set the rhythm of life. With every dram, every story, she reminded us that Ardbeg isn’t just whisky, it’s coming home to the edge of the sea.
- Words By House of Decant
Ardbeg sits on the wild, windswept island of Islay, a place of huge skies, rocky coastlines, and sunsets that make you stop and stare. It’s here that Jackie Thomson, Visitor Centre Manager, begins her day wandering from warehouse to mash house, checking casks and watching the distillery come alive.
She speaks with quiet pride about Ardbeg’s culture of innovation and collaboration, and about the privilege of being a guardian of this landscape and its whisky, even for a short while.
And then there’s the liquid itself. Jackie puts it best: dip your nose into a glass of Ardbeg and you’re instantly pulled to the edge of the sea. You’re home.
That’s the Ardbeg experience, and why sharing a dram here feels like so much more than just a tasting.
